Get it over with already....

Does anyone expect a jury in Atlanta, GA to give Brian Nichols the death penalty? This jury has been at a stalemate 9 to 3 for a couple of days. After hearing all they had against the guy it's a slam dunk for me. Again this case perfectly illustrates why the death penalty has become a joke. The current so called "humane" version of the death penalty process by way of lethal injection after years of appeals costing the tax payers hundreds of thousands of dollars accomplishes nothing. By the time the execution is carried out most everyone has already forgotten about the crime. There's no deterrent effect with the punishment showing our youth the consequences for callously snuffing the life out of innocent citizens.

I guess the current system is about "Civilized" societies. Guess what? There was nothing civilized in what Brian Nichols did that day back in March 2005. He's a stone cold killer and deserves no quarter. The families of his victims wake up every day knowing the scumbag that took their loved ones away is alive and well with 3 squares and a warm cell while they forever mourn their loss. I just want a return to a swift process in capital murder cases where the conviction based on irrefutable hard evidence. I believe it serves both the families of the victims and the general public as a deterrent. Waiting 25-30 years after the fact perhaps addresses the first but not the latter.
