I never watch the Academy Awards other than perhaps while channel surfing. My interest in this Hollywood suckfest ended years ago when it turned into a political platform for self indulgent, narcissistic egomaniacs. The sad thing is people listen to these self proclaimed intellectuals like their opinions on grand subjects actually matter. Let's get this straight if these people weren't celebrities they'd be serving the rest of us our meals in restaurants.
Actors are in fact professional liars. Paid to pretend to be other people. While I respect that many are artists and it does take work and talent to perform their craft. Most are megalomaniacs that believe that their position in society, on the cover of tabloid newspapers somehow qualifies them to be experts in all things political and social. They spend most of their "professional" careers idolizing and portraying other other narcissistic social misfits like themselves. In the end these celebrities (stars) are, for the most part incapable of doing any real work. Or at least believe their own hype and the jobs of the average Jane and Joe who buy tickets to their movies are below them.
Their main contribution to society is competing for the covers of the tabloids for the latest police mug shot, nip slip or upskirt photo contest. They spend huge amounts of time and money hiring publicists and PR people who's job is to try to remind people that they are ordinary people with ordinary lives like the folks who buy tickets to their movies. All the while most spend many times more for plastic surgery, psycho-analysis, and prescription and non-prescription drugs because they know they aren't who they portray themselves to be. I have yet to see any of them tell anyone about their actual qualifications and accreditation that lend credence to their expertise in politics. I guess if you attend enough fundraisers in Armani suites or Louis Vuitton dresses those are qualifications enough.
